The export of wine from Burgundy has for the first time reached the turnover limit of one billion euros. This is the result of figures from the local wine association. According to these figures, 88.1 million bottles worth around one billion euros were exported between October 2018 and September 2019. This is an increase of 6.5 percent in volume and 9.8 percent in sales compared to the same period last year. The reasons for this growth were high global demand and significantly rising prices for the wines.

In Switzerland, for example, sales rose by almost 24 percent from 39.8 to 49.3 million euros. While growth in the UK was only moderate at 1.1 per cent, it reached 12.9 per cent in Hong Kong and 11.7 per cent in Japan. The most important export country for Burgundy wines is the United States, whose sales rose by just over six per cent.
