The bottle manufacturers' association Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins (CEEV) has launched a Europe-wide initiative to recycle around 90 per cent of used wine bottles by 2030. In the EU, an average collection rate of 76 per cent is currently achieved. To this end, the European Packaging Industry Federation FEVE has founded the "Circular Economy Platform for Glass Collection & Recycling". The Secretary General of the CEEV, Ignacio Sánchez Recarte, explained that more than 90 percent of the wine produced in Europe is bottled. For the wine industry in particular, the circular economy is therefore one of the most important priorities. Because the quota for the recycling of used glass is currently only 52 percent on average. On the one hand, the newly founded platform wants to increase the collection rate, but on the other hand, it also wants to significantly improve the quality of the collected waste glass in order to return more material to production.
