In the Champagne region, the grape growers are increasing their harvest this autumn as well. The permitted quantity per hectare will be between 10,000 and 10,200 kg per hectare in 2019, said Franck Hagard, co-chairman of the association of grape producers. At present, he said, the contracts between the champagne houses and the winegrowers were being negotiated calmly and with only slightly higher prices. Demand remains stable and high, he stressed.

Since 2008, the total quantity of grapes produced in Champagne has been increasing continuously every year. Therefore, many buying companies and grape growers had hoped that the harvest volume would increase to 11,000 kg per hectare. Several Champagne houses, on the other hand, had pleaded for keeping the quantity below the psychologically important limit of 10,000 kg per hectare. The decision on this will only be made shortly before the harvest in autumn.
