Massive forest fires and an extreme heat wave with daytime temperatures of up to 45 degrees threaten the wine harvest in Australia. In addition, there is a great danger that the grapes near bush fires, for example in the top Hunter Valley region, will no longer be suitable for wine production due to smoke misflavours. Furthermore, the vines suffer massively from sunburn.

In the Barossa Valley, it is not so much the threatening walls of fire as the extreme heat and sunshine that are a massive problem for the winegrowers. Only the vineyards with irrigation systems would suffer less, according to the New South Wales Wine Industry Association. Now it depends on how long the heat and drought will last in order to harvest the grapes in good quality.
