Extreme weather conditions such as hail, heat and frost will reduce the French wine harvest by about twelve percent compared to 2018. This estimate was announced by the French Ministry of Agriculture. The losses vary greatly from region to region: In Burgundy, the experts expect yields to be 26 percent lower than in the previous year, in Bordelais only about four percent. The harvest in Champagne will also be significantly smaller than in 2018. In total, the ministry expects a production volume of 43.4 million hl compared to 49.4 million hl in the previous year. This is four percent less than the average of the past five years.
