The Food Test Centre of the German Agricultural Society (DLG) has made the wines and sparkling wines that were awarded in the Federal Wine Awards 2018 known.

In four rounds of testing, the DLG tested more than 4,000 German wines and sparkling wines a and awarded a total of 3,302 prizes. They are divided into 62 Gold Extra, 903 Gold, 1,553 Silver and 784 Bronze medals. With 23 awards, the Palatinate has the most wines and sparkling wines this year, which were awarded the "Golden DLG Prize Extra" for "particularly outstanding products". Baden followed with 22 and Württemberg with nine "Golden DLG Prizes Extra".

The winegrowers from the Palatinate received the most awards for wines and sparkling wines with 1,078 prizes, followed by Baden (696), Württemberg (497) and Rheinhessen (456).

The Federal Wine Award also honours the best wine collections of the companies. The prize winners are:

Alfons Ziegler Winery, St. Martin (Palatinate)


The Bundesehrenpreis in gold and the award "Winegrower of the Year 2018" went to the August Ziegler Winery (Palatinate), the Bundesehrenpreis Sekt in gold and the award "Sekterzeuger des Jahres 2018" to the Wilhelmshof Winery and Sektgut (Palatinate).

In the "Young Winemaker of the Year 2018" competition, Dominik Münzenberger from Weingut Münzenberger (Rheinhessen) won, second place went to Peter Geil from Fürstlich Castell'schen Domänenamt (Franconia) and to Anika Hattemer-Müller from the sparkling wine manufacturer Hattemer/Wein- & Sektgut Nikolaushof (Rheinhessen).
