The owner couple of the Cru Classé-Château Smith Haut Lafitte in the AOC Pessac-Leognan, Florence and Daniel Cathiard, have taken over the traditional winery Flora Springs, founded in 1885 with 25 hectares of vineyards in the Californian Napa Valley. There, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon grows, along with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and some Malbec. However, the brand as well as the wine stock and treasure trove of the estate remain in the possession of the wine company of the same name, to which several estates belong. Cathiard Family Estate" is to start production as early as this year's harvest. The responsibility as winemaker will be given to the young US oenologist Ben Morken, who has completed a trainée at Smith Haut Lafitte. The technical director of the château, Fabien Teitgen, will supervise and organize the work in 2020. The purchase price of the operation is not known.
