The Italian wine company Frescobaldi has opened the estate building for the Tuscan top wine Masseto. It is located directly at the vineyard and was designed by Hikaru Mori and Maurizio Zito from the ZitoMori architectural office. Previously, Masseto was expanded near Ornellaia, which is located on the same property.
The wine production is completely underground above the rebuilt historical building on the vineyard. It took several years of planning to meet the high demands of the oenology team, said CEO Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja. According to Masseto plant manager Axel Heinz, the cellar was born from the idea of reduction. "In it you can find everything necessary and nothing else."
The 2018 vintage is the first to be created in the new building with the also new oenologist Eleonora Marconi. The first vintage Masseto was published in 1987.
