The US beverage company Constellation Brands has sold 34 wine, sparkling wine and spirits brands and six wineries for 1.7 billion US dollars to the wine company E.&J. Gallo. The megadeal, which has attracted worldwide attention, primarily includes inexpensive wine brands such as Ravenswood, which is also available in German discount stores. The other labels are Clos du Bois, Black Box, Estancia, Mark West, Franciscan, Toasted Head, Hogue Cellars, Wild Horse, Blackstone, Vendange, Rex Goliath, Diseno, Hidden Crush, Taylor Country Cellars, Blufeld, Manischewitz, Wild Irish Rose, Arbor Mist, Milestone, La Terre, Taylor Dessert, Paul Masson Dessert, Capri, Cribari Dessert, Primal Roots, Taylor NY Table, Paul Masson Table, Simply Naked, Cribari Table, and V.NO. In addition there are sparkling wine and brandy brands. They all belong to the low price category below eleven dollars.

The six wineries acquired are Mission Bell, Turner Road Vintners, Clos du Bois and Wild Horse in California Hogue Cellars in Washington, and Canandaigua in New York.

According to a press release, Constellation intends to significantly strengthen its business with premium wine brands. Gallo, on the other hand, wants to win new customers in the supermarket with cheap wines. The company is the largest wine supplier in the USA with a market share of 25 percent of the total US wine business.
