German winegrowers are now allowed to apply pesticides in the vineyards using drones. The drone-distributor Droneparts from Hessigheim, in cooperation with LVWO Weinsberg, has received approval for the first spray drones from the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI).
The tests for application were part of the project "Introduction of Spray Drones in Steep Slope Viniculture". It is intended to provide technical equipment for spray drones and to train them from winegrowers to pilots. Until now, only helicopters were allowed to spray. With the JKI recognition of the spray drones Agras MG-1P and Agras T16 from the well-known manufacturer DJI are now available for use in steep-slope viticulture. At present, however, no crop protection products are yet permitted for use with drones in viticulture, and several applications for approval of crop protection products are said to have already been submitted.
