The Dr. Oetker Group has acquired a majority stake in the online wine retailer Belvini. According to a statement by Dr. Oetker, the contract has already been signed with effect from 4 October 2018. The purchase price is not known.

In the press release, Belvini CEO Christoph Gönner explains that the "enormous growth" of his company required the search for a strong partner: "In the family-owned company Oetker, we found much more than we were originally looking for. In addition to the shared values and entrepreneurial visions, we appreciate the combination of wine and technology affinity at Oetker. This will enable us to continue our growth story together." Belvini is to continue as an independent company within the Dr. Oetker Group. The previous owners Christoph Gönner and Rüdiger Kühnle will continue to hold shares in the company and will continue to manage the business in the future.

With the purchase of the shares in Belvini.de, the Oetker group wants to "invest in an already established online wine trade" and intensively support Oetker Digital with the know-how of the group company, explained Dr. Albert Christmann, shareholder of Dr. August Oetker KG and responsible for the sparkling wine, wine and spirits divisions as well as for Oetker Digital. The participation promotes "the expansion strategy in this future segment". A few days ago, Dr. Oetker founded Belvini Suisse GmbH in Obergösgen and appointed Oetker manager Claudio Christen as its managing director.
