The grapes for DOCG prosecco are now grown without the use of glyphosate. This is the decision of those responsible for Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. The decision applies regardless of whether or not the EU or Italian authorities permit its use. It affects 185 producers in the region. The local authorities had already decided in principle to ban glyphosate in 2018. Now that the regulation has come into force, it has now also reached the producers. Already since 2011, DOCG has been working on a new orientation of the cultivation guidelines for environmentally friendly and sustainable viticulture with a "cultivation protocol". It is considered to be groundbreaking for the other Italian wine growing regions.
