The German Wine Institute (DWI) has activated an online voting system that allows wine lovers and professionals to vote for the inclusion of German wine culture in the nationwide UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. According to the DWI, this is intended "to raise public awareness of wine culture and to honour the achievements of all those people who shape, cultivate and further develop it in all its facets here in Germany".

Germany can look back on a history of more than 2000 years of wine growing and thus on a wine culture that, although similar in age to that of other European countries, has its own unique character. It is a part of German culture and "above all a living present, not a museum".

Therefore, the German wine culture is unique in all its facets and worthy of protection. This can only happen, however, "if as many as possible, who are the bearers of the wine culture, support this".

Those who support the proposal can use this online form to cast their vote until 30 September 2019.
