The Germans have obviously lost a little bit of interest in sparkling wine and co. this year. This is what the news agency dpa writes about a current study by the market research institute Nielsen. According to the study, sales of sparkling wine, champagne, prosecco and sparkling wine between November 2017 and October 2018 were 3.5 percent lower than last year. The total value of bottles had fallen by 2.5 percent.

According to the figures, German citizens bought a total of around 311 million bottles of sparkling wine, champagne, prosecco and sparkling wine for around 1.2 billion euros in the past 12 months. The demand was highest at Christmas and New Year's Eve.

According to Nielsen, each German citizen will have bought an average of four bottles of sparkling wine in 2018. One of these bottles was bought during the Christmas and New Year's Eve period. Surprisingly, according to the bill, an average of 15 euros was spent on it.

Germans clearly preferred a dry sparkling wine. But there were regional differences: In East Germany, half-dry sparkling wine is bought most frequently, while in the South and Southwest, consumers mainly choose dry or extra-dry sparkling wine as well as Brut-Champagne or Crémant.
