At the opening of the 47th VDP Wine Exchange in Mainz, Dr. Daniel Deckers, head of the FAZ department, received the Silver Badge of Honour from the association "for his great commitment to the reappraisal of German wine cultural history". Deckers has been head of the "Die Gegenwart" department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine since 2011 and has also been working on the historical foundations of viticulture in Germany for over 20 years.

The VDP highlights his discovery of the Dünkelberg map of 1876, which is considered the oldest known vineyard site map in the world, as well as the Tranchot-Müffling maps, which were commissioned by Napoleon to map the viticulture on the Rhine and Moselle between 1801 and 1814. The VDP writes that he "researched and compiled important sources, historical maps, books and family chronicles with scientific meticulousness and great personal passion, thus creating comprehensible images that provide an insight into the culture of viticulture and its history".

For the 100th anniversary of the VDP, Deckers wrote the chronicle "Under the Sign of the Grape Eagle" on behalf of the association.
