On 1 January, the lawyer Christian Schwörer (41) from Freiburg took up his position as the new Secretary General of the German Winegrowers' Association (DWV). He succeeds Dr. Rudolf Nickenig, who headed the DWV office in Bonn from 1986 to 2018. Schwörer has already been working at DWV since November 2015 as a consultant for wine law with a focus on EU affairs. In doing so, he was involved, for example, in the interests of winegrowers in the area of protected designations of origin. As of January 1, 2018, the Association had already appointed him Deputy Secretary General in preparation for the new position.

Prior to this, he worked for five years for the German Bar Association in Brussels as Managing Director in the EU Affairs Department and as Deputy Office Manager. Schwörer therefore has a very good knowledge of Brussels lobbying. Prior to this, he worked for three years as a lawyer in the International Corporate Tax (French Desk) department of a major auditing firm in Düsseldorf and in a German-French law firm in Stuttgart.
