Château Pétrus has sold 20 percent of its shares in the company to the American-Colombian investor Alejandro Santo Domingo for around 200 million euros. This was reported by "La Revue du Vin de France" and the French daily newspaper "Les Echos". According to the report, Santo Domingo is one of the most important shareholders of the international brewery group InBev. He is also chairman of the supervisory board of the large brewery Grupo Empresarial Bavaria, which belongs to SAB Miller. The Pétrus owner family Moueix and Santo Domingo have known each other for many years. The deal had already been concluded a year ago in camera and only became known a few days ago.

The sale is based on a company valuation, which puts Pétrus with its 11.4 hectares of vineyards at around one billion euros. This puts the converted value at around 87 million euros per hectare of vineyard area. This is by far the highest price per hectare ever paid in France. The record to date has been 26 million euros. This was the price paid at the end of 2017 by the investment group Artemis of French billionaire François Pinault for the Burgundy vineyard Clos de Tart.
