The legendary sweet wine estate Château d'Yquem in Sauternes harvested around 40 per cent fewer grapes in 2018 than the average of previous years. This is what marketing director Jean-Philippe Lemoine said in Hong Kong. The reasons were a disastrous hailstorm in July, mildew infections between May and July and the coulure at flowering time.

The harvest lasted from mid-September to the end of November, the longest in recorded history at 78 days. The reason was the dry weather, which prevented the grapes from being infected with botrytis.

Château d'Yquem currently sells around 35 percent of its production to Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Japan and Singapore.
