In 2018, around 1.8 percent less champagne was sold worldwide than in 2017, according to the Bureau du Champagne. According to the figures, total sales reached almost 302 million bottles. Exports remained almost stable with an increase of 0.6 percent and now account for 51.3 percent of total sales. The French market, on the other hand, shows a decline of 4.2 percent to 147 million bottles, according to the figures. According to the Bureau du Champagne, this is "probably also due to socio-economic uncertainties".

Deliveries within the European Union fell slightly by 0.9 percent to 76 million bottles, while growth continued in the markets outside Europe. Sales there rose by 2.1 percent to almost 79 million bottles. Non-European markets now account for more than half of total exports. In these markets, volume growth has been constant for ten years, and sales there have risen by almost 90 percent.

Worldwide champagne sales are estimated at 4.9 billion euros, the same level as in the record year 2017. This development in sales and turnover is in line with the producers' strategy, which aims to increase the added value of the wines and strengthen exports.
