In 2018, Champagne achieved a worldwide record turnover of 4.9 billion euros. This is 0.3 percent more than in 2017, while sales declined by 1.8 percent to 301.9 million bottles, the Comité Champagne reported at a press conference at the Prowein trade fair in Düsseldorf.

France and Great Britain, which account for 60 per cent of global sales, were the most important factors in the decline: sales in these markets fell by 4 per cent. The sales trend, on the other hand, was only two percent lower because more expensive bottles were sold.
Worldwide Champagne exports continued to grow with increases of 0.6 percent in sales and 1.8 percent in turnover.

Champagne deliveries to Germany had fallen by 1.1 percent or 140,600 bottles compared to 2017: according to the figures, 12,144,521 million bottles were delivered in 2018. Champagne winegrowers and Champagne houses on the German market, on the other hand, reported a 3.2 percent increase in sales due to the higher prices: Champagne for 203 million euros was exported to Germany in 2018. This was a "new historical record". Only in 1997 was a similar amount of 201.6 million euros spent on champagne. Germany remained the world's number four export market in terms of sales and turnover. Only in France, in the USA and in Great Britain was more champagne drunk.
