The Champagne cultivation area is to be herbicide-free by 2025. This was declared a few days ago in Epernay by Jean-Marie Barillère, President of the Union des Maisons de Champagne. "The die has been cast. The political debate on glyphosate - which is not even the most dangerous active ingredient - shows what can be expected." He went on to say, "There's a great chance that the substances we currently use will not be approved after 2022." The champagne houses would have set themselves two goals: The end of herbicide use in 2025 and the 100% certification of vineyards by 2030.

The Grape Producers' Association is also open to the realisation of these plans, confirmed Maxime Toubart of the Producers' Association. However, the Champagne winegrowers' association has not yet made any statement on an official ban within the AOC rules
