The Bordelais, Burgundy and some other French wine regions are currently affected by extreme weather conditions. In the Bordelais, for example, temperatures have risen to over 17 degrees, seven degrees warmer than the average for the past 30 years. Shortly afterwards, the temperature dropped below zero degrees with snowfall and sometimes severe frost. In Burgundy too, the temperature dropped below the frost line. However, due to the very mild winter, the growth of the vines is about 15 days further developed than the average. Therefore, the winegrowers try to protect the sensitive shoots with torches, wind machines and other techniques.
