Champagne producer Bollinger intends to invest 45 million euros in the coming years to increase its vineyards. This was explained by Bollinger oenologist Gilles Descôtes in an interview with Drinks Business. According to the report, the champagne house has been providing an annual sum of 4.5 million euros for a period of ten years since 2016.

Descôtes is currently trying to buy about three hectares of vineyards each year; this year it may even be four hectares. This would increase the Bollinger area to 174 hectares. "We want to expand to over 200 hectares within the ten-year period," Gilles Descôtes said in the interview. With this strategy he wants to achieve that more than 60 percent of the grapes processed annually come from his own vineyards. This creates planning security for the company's growth strategy.

However, the purchase of vineyards in Champagne is very difficult and expensive because only a few owners want to sell to champagne houses, Descôtes admitted.
