In 2016, 7.03 percent of the vineyards in Germany were organically cultivated. This means that the number has more than doubled since 2007, reports the Federal Statistical Office. At that time, the proportion was still 3.03 percent. In total, there are currently exactly 7007 of 99,173 hectares. According to the report, the organic vineyards were cultivated by 727 wineries. Their share is currently 4.3 percent of all wine-growing operations.

According to the figures, Rhineland-Palatinate leads the way with an 8.15 percent share of organic vineyards, followed by Bavaria with 6.24 percent and Hesse with 5.84 percent. Baden-Württemberg has the lowest organic cultivation with 4.91 percent.
