The famous Brunello winemaker Gianfranco Soldera, owner of the Case Basse winery, died in a car accident in the vineyards. The 82-year-old had driven his SUV into a ditch. The reason could have been a weakness or a heart attack.

He was considered a quarrelsome producer, whose positions were controversial among many critics. For example, he considered many of his competitors' Brunello products to be "insufficient". Nevertheless, the Brunello of Case Basse, with 23 hectares of vineyards, achieved the highest prices in the production area. Whether his wife, son or daughter will continue the business is currently open.
