The city of Beaune has presented the design of a public building called "'Cité des vins et des climats". The 1,100 square metre, cylindrically shaped design with a green roof area of 1,600 square metres was developed by the French architect Emmanuelle Andreani. The building is to be built in the city. On the ground floor an exhibition area, a café, a bookstore and the reception are to be built. On the first floor, rooms for seminars and tastings are designed, while the second floor will provide space for teaching events. The third floor is to be developed for conferences. A bar is to be built on the fourth floor and a viewing terrace on the fifth. Construction work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020 and will open for the famous wine auction in 2021. The construction will cost about 10.5 million euros, the municipality expects 150,000 visitors per year. Similar projects are also planned in Chablis and Mâcon.
