The food discounter Aldi is opening a pop-up store for wine in Düsseldorf city centre for the international trade fair ProWein, which will take place in Düsseldorf from 19 to 21 March 2017. This is reported by several German business media.

From 17 to 21 March, Aldi will present selected wines from its range at Schadowplatz in a modernly designed salesroom with lots of glass and wood. The concept is called "My Wine World" and presents renowned wineries over the five days, including S.A. Prüm and Fritz Keller from Germany, Leo Hillinger from Austria, Baron Philippe de Rothschild from France, Marchesi de' Frescobaldi from Italy and E.&J. Gallo from California. The producers are represented at Aldi with their own wine lines.

"'My Wine World' is an ideal meeting place for wine connoisseurs as well as for people who are not yet familiar with the wines of Aldi Süd and now want to change this", the Handelsblatt quotes Ingo Panknin, Group Buying Director at Aldi. The Handelsblatt report continues: "Recently, Aldi Süd created a digital presence for its wine trade. On the portal meine-weinwelt.de, the entire wine range is presented, supplemented by tips from wine experts and matching recipes." In the UK, Aldi already sells wine in an online shop. "It is therefore probably only a matter of time before Aldi also sells wine on the internet in Germany," says the Handelsblatt.
