The closure of restaurants and bars in Europe could cost wine producers in the EU countries as a whole around 50 percent of their turnover. Pau Roca, director of the "International Organisation of Vine and Wine" (OIV), explained this in a video conference a few days ago. The OIV estimates that the consequences of the crisis will result in a 35 percent reduction in the volume of wine bought by wineries. However, this figure differs from country to country and from region to region. Roca, however, pointed out that its organisation does not currently have enough statistical data to be able to make a precise prediction of sales trends.

Despite a significant increase in wine sales, the retail trade - and in particular the supermarkets - were unable to compensate for the loss of sales in the catering trade due to the low prices. In the case of online trading, which has risen significantly as a result of Corona, overloaded delivery logistics is the most important problem that urgently needs to be solved.
