25 cases of a special edition of Château Mouton Rothschild, specially assembled for restoration work at the Palace of Versailles, were auctioned in London on 16 April for the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which burned down. They fetched the equivalent of around 866,000 euros.

The auction house reported that the announced price more than doubled during the auction and was even higher than at an auction in Hong Kong a few days ago.

Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, CEO of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, said that he and his family, together with Catherine Pégard, director of the Versailles Museum and Palace, had decided at short notice to use the proceeds of this auction for Notre Dame, which is "an integral part of our cultural identity".

The last 25 cases of Château Mouton would be auctioned in New York in May for the benefit of projects at Versailles.
