What does "feinherb" mean?
In contrast to the terms "dry", "semi-dry", "medium sweet" and "sweet", the flavour indication "feinherb" is not defined by wine law. For still wines, it covers a range of more than 9 and significantly less than 45 (i.e. factually less than 30 or 35) grams of residual sugar per litre.
Most fine-tart wines have a residual sugar content between 15 and 25 grams per litre and are thus either semi-dry (up to 18 grams per litre) or medium sweet in the sense of the wine law. Winegrowers hope that the designation "feinherb" will make them more marketable than the original wine law terms.
