What does producer bottling mean?
Producer bottling indicates that the wine labelled in this way was produced entirely on the producer's own premises from the producer's own grapes. The producer (who can be a vineyard, a group of vineyards or also a winegrowers' cooperative ) has therefore grown, pressed and fermented the grapes used and matured and bottled the wine himself.
The equivalents for producer bottling in other languages are:
- Mis(e) en bouteille à la propriété, Mis(e) en bouteille au château, Mis(e) en bouteille au domaine - France
- Imbottigliato all'origine, Imbottigliato dal viticoltore, Imbottigliato dall'azienda agricola - Italy
- Embotellado en origen - Spain
- Estate bottled - New World
A producer bottling does not exist and is not permissible as a designation if the wine producer has purchased the grapes and has not grown them himself or if the bottler (e.g. a wine merchant) has purchased the wine and has not produced it himself
