What does breakout mean?
In Austria, the predicate Ausbruch denotes a sweet wine that has been produced from noble rotten grapes (i.e. grapes affected by the noble fungus Botrytis cinerea ), overripe grapes and grapes that have dried like sultanas. The grapes must have a minimum must weight of 27 degrees KMW. In terms of type, Ausbruch corresponds to a Trockenbeerenauslese.
Since 2016, the designation Ausbruch has been reserved exclusively for the noble sweet speciality Ruster Ausbruch, which is the protected designation of origin of the wine village on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland Rust on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland.
