Which wine guides are there?
Numerous wine magazines also regularly taste and rate wines, and many also organise wine competitions. In German-speaking countries, these include Der Feinschmecker, Enos, Meiningers Sommelier, Meiningers Weinwelt, Merum, Selection, Vinaria, Vinum, Wein+Markt, Weinwirtschaft and Weinwisser, as well as Decanter, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator and La Revue du Vin de France in other languages.
Apart from these, there are explicit wine guides that exclusively judge wines and/or wineries:
- in Germany
wein.plus (Marcus Hofschuster)
Gault & Millau
Eichelmann
Vinum
Falstaff - in Austria
Falstaff - in France
Guide Hachette
Gilbert & Gaillard
Bettane & Desseauve - in Italy
Gambero Rosso
Vini di Veronelli (Luigi Veronelli)
Luca Maroni
Doctor Wine (Daniele Cernilli)
Slow Wine - in Spain
Guía Peñín
Guía Proensa
In addition, various international wine critics publish their wine reviews, some in their own media (in alphabetical order):
- Michael Broadbent
- Jeb Dunnuck
- Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
- James Halliday (Wine Companion)
- Hugh Johnson
- Robert M. Parker (Wine Advocate)
- Stuart Pigott
- John Platter
- Jancis Robinson
- Steven Spurrier
- James Suckling
- Stephen Tanzer
In very few cases, however, are these wine ratings available free of charge.
